The HPI program stopped in November 2008 after the release of the first complete set of human proteins.
This annotation program has been replaced by the program CD2 (Core Data for Chordata). The Human Proteome Initiative (HPI) aims to annotate all known human protein sequences, as well as their orthologous sequences in other mammals, according to the quality standards of UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot. In addition to accurate sequences, we strive to provide, for each protein, a wealth of information that includes the description of its function, domain structure, subcellular location, similarities to other proteins, etc. About 21'000 human genes encode one million different proteins.
